Worship Consultation

We meet approximately three times a year to review our worship and plan for future special services and events.

We have reviewed the evening services and especially the concerns expressed at the numbers attending which sometimes are low. We have asked the Stewards to monitor the numbers attending.

Last Advent a longer liturgy was used rather than simply sing an additional verse of an advent hymn as the weeks of Advent progressed. This was appreciated by the congregation.

In Lent, we had begun to use a Lenten Cross liturgy, with readings and prayers with various artifacts placed around the cross. Again, this was appreciated, but sadly, was cut short due to the church closure.

The Carol Service was held on 22nd December led by Keith.

Street Pastor's Sunday took place on 1st December at 10:45am led by Keith & the Street Pastors.

Film Plus was reviewed and a slightly new style and format trialed. With an informal act of worship/discussion in the meeting room taking pace as soon as the service and finished and refreshments had been shared. The feedback was positive and although the numbers are sometimes quite small, visitors from Wantage Methodist Church have helped boost numbers.

Music Group The Music Group is willing to play for the occasional Church service.

Bible month in 2020 sees the Church looking at Ruth.

Theme preaching took place from 13th October last year for 4 weeks. With Keith, Peter, Ian and Carol leading a week each on the theme of The Lord's Prayer. It is hoped to have some theme preaching later on this year, if possible.

2020 A joint Circuit event on the White Horse Hill was being planned but has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus.

Local Arrangements. It was decided that when a new plan comes out, the stewards together will look at any Local Arrangement and what format the service will take.

Church Anniversary 2020 to be led by Andrew Lockley and 2021 Martin Smithson will be our preacher. A preacher for 2022 will need to be decided at the February Church Council meeting The name of Helen Cameron was put forward.
In the event, Andrew was able to take part in the Zoom service on 3rd May. Might it be an idea to invite Andrew and Su to take the Anniversary services in 2022?

Memorial Service This will be on Sunday 1st November at 6.30 pm at Grove.

Carols around the Tree This year the service will be held on Thursday 17th December and will be followed by mince pies and coffee in the church.

Our own Carol Service will be on 20th December and will be led by Carol.

Harvest This will be on 4th October followed by the Harvest Supper on the Monday 5th.

These dates are of course subject to our church being open once more and the lifting of restrictions placed on those of certain age groups etc.

There is an open invitation for anyone to come along to any of our meetings.
