Welcome to the Wantage heritage audio tour. I'm Libby, Community Chaplain with Wantage and Abingdon Methodist Circuit, and I'd like to introduce you to this short guided trail around some of the older buildings in Wantage, with stories narrated by champions of the places featured. Special thanks to White Horse Family and Local historian, Trevor Hancock, for facilitating the making of this tour.

If you need parking, Portway car park outside the Beacon is a few minutes' walk from the museum, and is open 24 hours a day, and chargeable from Monday to Saturday, 8am-6pm. It's free the rest of the time. Please note that a valid ticket must be displayed at all times during the charging period, including during a free stay.

I suggest you start the tour outside the Methodist Church just to the right of the Portway car park as you come out of it into the direction of the town centre side. You might then want to go to Vale and Downland Museum on Church Street to the left of the Portway car park as you come out on the town centre side. The other stops are arranged in a suggested walking route from there. The map on the trail webpage shows you how to get to all the places featured.

There are public toilets in the Beacon car park, and in the museum, and the museum is free to visit too. We hope you enjoy your walk and that you learn something about Wantage. If you have any information to add to any of the stories or would like to know more, please get in touch. All our contact details are listed on the final track.
