Material for ascension-tide

We are delighted to be able to share with you two resources from the Market Harborough Circuit passed on to me by the Superintendent, Andy Murphy.

Andy says that they are designed to help people find closeness with God in times of quiet reflection.

The first, is a work which has taken several weeks to prepare, designed and written by Mr Michael Mays and Revd John Rackley – as a 'novena' for the period of Ascensiontide.

Michael is a local preacher in the Circuit, and professionally he is a valuer of antiques and holds a degree in the history of art. John is an associate presbyter in the Circuit, published author, and former president of the Baptist Union.

They offer this work – uniquely designed for this period of crisis – in the hope that it will allow people to reflect on our Christian hope through the medium of art, reflecting on nine different masterpieces.

The second is offered tentatively by Revd Alison Tomlin (former Chair of the District and President of Conference). Alison has hosted many 'quiet days' over the years, and she offers this resource aware that it cannot quite recapture the space and feeling of a quiet day, but hopes that it may be a useful focus for reflection, nevertheless, or an encouragement for people to be creative in a similar way.

Andy says that we can share these resources and may use them freely, as we see fit, with the blessings of the authors.

We are very grateful to them.
