Wantage Methodist Church will have a labyrinth in their church on Sunday 9th June between 5 and 6:30 pm for anyone to come along and experience. In the evening their young people's group YMOSES will be using it. A labyrinth looks like a flat maze, with a way in and out and a path to the centre, but it only has one path so you can't get lost! All you have to do to get to the centre is simply keep following the path. Labyrinths have been used since ancient times as symbols of the spiritual life and since medieval times as symbols of the Christian path. They were used as an alternative to costly and impractical pilgrimages for people who couldn't easily travel. The journey to the middle of the labyrinth might represent travelling to Jerusalem, or meeting God face to face or reaching the end of life.
There are various ways to use the labyrinth but the usual method is simply to follow the path to the centre, rest there a while and then slowly follow it back out. It is a method of praying using your whole body. You walk the labyrinth individually, at your own pace and handouts for anyone to use who wishes to do so. There will be refreshments available in the porch. Everyone is warmly welcome!
